Breaking : OpenAl, Microsoft, Anthropic Warn: Al Cyberattacks Will Get "Far More Widespread and Sophisticated

TORONTO: More than 100 major technology companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, and Hugging Face, signed an open letter last week warning that artificial intelligence will make cyberattacks "far more widespread and sophisticated."

The companies said AI tools are already being used by hackers to automate phishing, create malware, and find security flaws at a speed and scale never seen before.

They warned that without stronger safety measures and collaboration between governments and tech firms, AI-enabled attacks could target hospitals, banks, power grids, and other critical infrastructure.

The letter calls for increased investment in AI safety research, better cybersecurity defenses, and clearer rules on how powerful AI models are released to the public.

Industry leaders say this is a "warning shot" — that the real danger comes when AI agents can plan and carry out attacks with little human help.
