Sheeran addressed the controversy on stage Saturday night at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia , his first show since the row erupted. "This week, criticism was about something much more important and I've had to take and make difficult decisions and I am making mistakes, and I'm so, so sorry," Sheeran told the crowd before performing. Macklemore was removed from the US dates of Sheeran's Loop Tour after shouting "Free Palestine" and accusing Israel of genocide during his set at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey earlier this month. Golden Dome is Trump's proposed $175 billion multi-layered system designed to detect and intercept ballistic, hypersonic and cruise missiles targeting the US. Trump wants it ready by January 2029.

Trump says Greenland's location in the Arctic is vital for early warning. The shortest route for a Russian missile to reach the US is over the North Pole, and Greenland sits directly under that path.

The island already hosts Pituffik Space Base, which can track missile launches deep into Russia and China.

On Truth Social, Trump wrote: "The United States needs Greenland for the purpose of National Security. It is vital for the Golden Dome that we are building. IF WE DON'T, RUSSIA OR CHINA WILL."

Trump said European allies could cooperate in the project, and announced a new security deal with Denmark giving the US permanent control over Greenland's security. Denmark said the deal does not give the US sovereignty, and Greenlandic people have the right to self-determination.

The US already has wide military access in Greenland under a 1951 agreement.
