US diesel prices have hit a new all-time high, reaching an average of $6.43 per gallon on Friday, according to GasBuddy.

The historic surge comes from two major supply shocks: continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz after the US-Israeli attack on Iran in February, and intensified Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil facilities.

The Strait of Hormuz, which handles about 20% of the world's oil, has seen tanker traffic collapse from 120 vessels per day to just 4 per day, according to Kpler data. Gulf diesel exports have fallen to 390,000 barrels per day - just a quarter of pre-war levels.

Regular gasoline has also jumped to $4.47 per gallon, up $1.53 since the war with Iran began. Brent crude remains above $100, trading around $103 per barrel.

The impact goes beyond the pump. Diesel powers trucks, farms, and heavy industry, so higher prices will raise costs for food, travel, and shipping. The National Energy Assistance Directors Association warns that households using heating oil could face winter bills 31% higher than last year.

With midterm elections approaching in November, rising fuel costs have become a top concern for US .
