Breaking : Former V&A Waterfront CIO Ordered to Pay R2.9 Million After Lying to Get Job and Running Double Salary Scam A former V&A Waterfront Chief Information Officer (CIO) who lied about her employment history to secure a lucrative job while secretly drawing a second salary has been ordered to pay nearly R2.9 million in damages. The Cape Town Labour Court ruled against Sibongiseni Thotsejane on September 18, 2026. She was appointed as CIO on October 12, 2015 and fired for misconduct on December 12, 2016. What did the court find? 1. She Lied About Her CV: Thotsejane told V&A she left Engen due to "political challenges" and Old Mutual because she was "headhunted". The court found she was actually fired from Engen for gross misconduct, from Old Mutual for insubordination, and from Acceleration eMarketing for missing deadlines. 2. What are Nitazenes? - Synthetic opioids up to 500 times stronger than heroin - First made in 1950s as painkillers but never approved because they were too strong - Can be 50 to 500x stronger than heroin How gangs are using it: - Buy Nitazenes cheaply from illegal labs (mostly believed to be in China ) - Mix small amounts with heroin, cocaine, and fake prescription pills - Because it is so strong, a tiny amount makes weak heroin seem strong - so profits go up - Smuggled into the UK in small parcels via post Police and the National Crime Agency (NCA) say this is causing a surge in deaths.
